SayHello and OmeTV Compared

5 min read

OmeTV puts your face on screen. SayHello never asks for a camera. Same idea, two very different evenings.

OmeTV is one of the biggest video roulette sites still running, with apps for phones and a web version. SayHello is a text chat for adults with no camera feature at all. People compare them because both match you with one stranger, but what happens after the match is not remotely the same.

What OmeTV is

Described from what the service offers, without scoring it:
  1. Video roulette: you are matched with one person and you see each other.
  2. It runs in a browser and also has apps for phones.
  3. No account is needed to start on the web version.
  4. It asks for camera and microphone access, because that is the product.
  5. There is a country filter, so you can narrow where the other person is.
  6. Nudity and sexual content are against its rules.
  7. Moderation is a visible part of how it runs, including bans for rule breaking.
  8. Whether a gender filter is sold there is not something we can state, so we do not.

What SayHello is

The same treatment for this site, limits included:
  1. Text chat between adults, one person at a time. There is no video feature in the product.
  2. It runs in a browser. There is no app and nothing to install.
  3. No account needed to start; gender and age are optional, and your partner sees them.
  4. 5 conversations a day as a guest, and a free account removes the limit.
  5. Two rooms with separate queues: Talk, and 18+ for adult subjects.
  6. No bots — that code was deleted from the project on 19 September 2026.
  7. No live moderation. There are reports, and three different reports within an hour close search for an hour.
  8. Messages are deleted 24 hours after the chat ends; a reported chat within 30 days.

What text gives you that video cannot

Five things that follow directly from there being no camera:
You can talk from anywhere. A bus, an open-plan office, a shared bedroom at midnight.
Nothing about you is on screen. No face, no room, no window, no reflection.
It works on a weak connection. Typing costs kilobytes; video costs a data plan.
You get time to think. A few seconds before each sentence, every time.
Adult subjects have a room of their own. They are allowed there and kept out of Talk.

What each one can see

This is the difference that matters most, and it is not about policy — it is about what the format makes possible:
  1. A video chat shows your face to a stranger who can screenshot or record it. A text chat cannot.
  2. A video chat shows your room: posters, windows, furniture, the weather outside.
  3. A microphone carries background sound — traffic, a television, other people in the flat.
  4. Text reveals only what you decide to type, one sentence at a time.
  5. Both kinds of site see your IP address. That is how the internet works; anyone claiming otherwise is wrong.
  6. SayHello stores a signed cookie to count your daily conversations, and no raw IP in its analytics.
  7. Neither format protects you from telling someone your name. That part is always up to you.

Video is better at some things

Eight honest points, in both directions, so you can choose rather than be sold:
  1. Video is better if you want to know the person is real and roughly who they claim to be.
  2. Video is better at tone. A face carries jokes that text has to explain.
  3. Video is faster — speaking beats typing on words per minute, by a lot.
  4. Video is worse when you cannot be seen or heard, which is most of the day.
  5. Video is worse on a metered data plan or a slow line.
  6. Text is better if you are talking in a language you are still learning.
  7. Text is better if being looked at makes you close the tab.
  8. Text is easier to leave. No goodbye owed to a face on a screen.

When OmeTV is the right answer

If you want to see and hear the other person, use OmeTV or another video site — this one has no camera and never will. If you want a phone app rather than a browser tab, OmeTV has apps and SayHello does not. If you want adult subjects, OmeTV's rules do not allow them and SayHello has a room that does. And if you want to type to an adult stranger without showing anything, that is the one thing this site is built for.

Questions people ask

Does OmeTV have a text-only mode?

OmeTV is built around video. If you want text matching with no camera at any point, that is a different kind of site.

Is SayHello an OmeTV alternative?

For the text half of what people want, yes. For video it is not an alternative at all — there is no camera feature here.

Do I need to install an app?

Not for SayHello. It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer. OmeTV offers apps as well as a web version.

Which uses less data?

Text, by a wide margin. A video call runs at video bitrates; typing sends kilobytes.

Can I talk about adult subjects?

On SayHello, in the 18+ room. OmeTV's rules forbid sexual content.

Is either one moderated in real time?

SayHello is not — it uses reports and automatic blocks. OmeTV describes active moderation of its video streams.
